Eating in Hong Kong can be expensive. A decent meal in a popular food spot can easily cost HKD50-100 (roughly PHP390-780 or USD7-14) per person. But if you are a budget-conscious foodie, this shouldn’t ruin your Hong Kong food trip. Thankfully, there are plenty of cheap alternatives.
Last Thursday, I’ve written about Dragon Hundred Flavors, a “this this rice” spot serving Cantonese dishes for as low as HKD20 (check my review here). It helped us saved money during our recent trip. But aside from Dragon Hundred Flavors, we also relied on Tong Kee Bao Dim.
Tong Kee Bao Dim Jordan Branch
Tong Kee Bao Dim is a chain of takeaway stalls specializing on dim sum. For as low as HKD19, you can have your Har Gow (shrimp dumplings), Siu Mai (pork and shrimp dumplings), and dim sum fix!

For comparison, One Dim Sum’s har gow costs HKD42, while its siu mai costs HKD36. (Check out my One Dim Sum review here.)
By the way, the pricing depends on the location. Their Jordan branch offers dim sum starting at HKD19, while their Tsim Sha Tsui East branch starts at HKD22. So the prices in this article are based on its Jordan branch.

Anyway, here’s what we’ve tried so far:
Assorted Vegetables Crystal Dumpling: It has a nice crunch and natural sweetness from the veggies (I saw corn, carrots, and mushrooms).

Beef Balls with Tofu Sheet: They a plump, bouncy, and juicy.

Chicken Feet in Black Bean & Chili Sauce: While it’s not the softest I’ve ever had, it’s still soft enough. It’s also a bit sweet, a bit salty, and sticky. Overall, it has a good flavor profile.

Pork and Quail’s Egg Dumpling: It’s quail egg adds creaminess to every bite.

Steamed Rice with Spare Ribs & Chicken Feet: This one is hefty for just HKD29. The spare ribs are tasty and tender.

If you’re on a tight budget, then Tong Kee Bao Dim might be able to save you a few dollars. Granted, it doesn’t serve the best dim sum. But it will definitely satisfy your dim sum cravings. In fact, I might just settle for Tong Kee Bao Dim on our next Hong Kong visit for my dim sum fix.
If you’re trying to save money, then I highly recommend Tong Kee Bao Dim to you!
For Tong Kee Bao Dim branches and operating hours, I suggest checking out Google Maps. Seriously. LOL.
