Last year, I had my first ever roast goose at Yat Lok Restaurant (read my review here). Since then, I always made sure to order roast goose whenever I have the opportunity.
So in our recent visit, we went to another siu mei (Cantonese roast meats) shop, which is Chukfo Taipan Restaurant. Located in a wet market area in Wan Chai, this restaurant has more locals than tourists dining in it (probably due to its location).

The Wet Market Area
Like other restaurants in Hong Kong, the restaurant is compact and you may share tables when it’s full of diners. But the good thing is that it’s nicer and cleaner than other restos. Plus, the staff are friendly, which is rare in Hong Kong.

Now, let’s talk about the food, starting with the Roasted Goose Leg. By the way, if you have the opportunity, always order the leg part. I find it fattier and juicier than other parts of the goose.

As expected, Chukfo’s roast goose is succulent. However, the meat could be more tender and its skin crispier. So sorry Chukfo, Yat Lok’s is still better.
We were supposed to order Roast Suckling Pig. Unfortunately, it wasn’t available during our visit. So we opted for the Crispy Roasted Pork Belly. It’s on the lean side, has a crunchy skin, and has a strong five spice flavor. But like the roast goose, this could be more tender.

One of the bestsellers of Chukfo is the Signature Four Treasures Rice, which has Char Siu (barbecued pork), Steamed Chicken, Red Sausage, and Salted Egg.

The char siu is juicy, tender, and a bit fatty. It’s perfectly sweet and one of the better char sius I’ve tried in Hong Kong.

Even though the steamed chicken uses the breast part, it’s juicy, tender, and tasty. It’s perfect with the saltiness of the ginger-scallion dip.
Steamed Chicken
It’s our first time to try a red sausage. For Filipinos like us, you can compare this to Purefoods Tender Juicy (TJ) Hotdog (LOL!). It looks, feels, and tastes like a TJ Hotdog, but with anise or five spice flavor.

We washed down our roast meats feast with Iced Milk Tea. You can never go wrong with a Hong Kong milk tea!

Chukfo Taipan Restaurant is one of the better Cantonese roast meat shops in Hong Kong. They generally have good roast meats. Plus, the venue is nice and the staff are friendly. No wonder the locals gatekeep this place. I highly recommend it to you!
