I have a few backlogs of our Bohol foodventures. So I’m doing a Bohol Food Trip mini-series. Check out the installments: The Lost Cow Chophouse (Steaks and Smoked Meats) | The Prawn Farm Resturant at South Farm (Filipino Restaurant) | Smoque Bistro (Meats) | Totò e Peppino (Italian Restaurant)

We’ve been passing by Ubeco from our hotel and to Alona Beach, the main tourist area in Panglao, Bohol. So we decided to give it a try.

Ubeco

The name “Ubeco” is a combination of two popular ingredients of the Philippines: Ube (purple yam) and coconut. As its name hints, Ubeco is a restaurant that infuses Filipino ingredients into Asian and Western dishes. The restaurant is owned and operated by a Korean national.

The interior is minimalistic with tropical vibes. It really feels like you’re in an island!

They also have an outdoor area at the back:

Let’s talk about the food, starting with their bestselling Coco Mango Curry. You can choose between chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and grilled shrimp. We got the former.

Coco Mango Curry (PHP480)

The karaage is huge, juicy, and tender, but not as crunchy as I want it to be. It’s sitting in a bed of Japanese-style curry.

Honestly, I can’t remember if I tasted coconut milk and mango in the curry. Maybe I was just too hungry at that time that I didn’t notice. LOL. Still, the Coco Mango Curry is a good dish.

The Deep-Fried Calamari is made of tender squid covered in crunchy batter. What makes it Asian is the sauce, which is sweet, spicy, and tangy, with Korean flavors.

For drinks, I got the Coconut Coffee, which is composed of espresso and coconut smoothie. It really tastes like how it’s called!

I forgot the name of my wife’s drink! LOL.

Honestly, I don’t know where the fusion of Filipino ingredients comes in. Except for Coco Mango Curry, I couldn’t tell what Filipino ingredients were used in other dishes, at least on how I read their menu.

Still, we could tell that Ubeco makes good food from the few items we tried. Plus, it has a laidback vibe. I hope to return someday to try more items. I highly recommend it to you!
