Malacca (Melaka in Malay) is one of the historical cities of Malaysia. It has a rich colonial history, with the Dutch, Portuguese, and British settling in that order. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Penang (check out my Penang Food Guide here).

I visited Malacca back in 2018. Honestly, while the food is delicious and diverse, I wasn’t impressed with the city probably because of the heat and the humidity. But earlier this year, I returned again to give it another chance. Did it redeem itself? Find out later! Anyway…

One of my memorable food experiences in Malacca is from Pak Putra Restaurant. Its food is so good that it ended up my favorite restaurant of my first Malacca trip.

Pak Putra Restaurant

Pak Putra is a restaurant that serves North Indian and Pakistani food, which includes my favorites Chicken Tandoori (cooked in tandoor or cylindrical oven) and Naan (flatbread).

Inside Pak Putra Restaurant. It’s still busy even late at night!

The chicken tandoori is tender and the juiciest I’ve ever had. It comes with a dip that has nice garlic and mint flavors, and veggies that add crisp and freshness.

Look at that Chicken Tandoori!

It pairs well with naan, which is fluffy and nicely chewy. The Garlic Naan with Butter is so good, but the Triple Cheese Naan is overkill.

The Palak Paneer (spinach purée with Indian cottage cheese) has a nice spinach flavor and chunks of mild cheese.

By the way, it’s called “Spinach of Your Choice” in the menu. But you can’t choose the spinach. You can only choose whether cheese or potato. LOL.

Mutton Kebab

Unfortunately, the Mutton Kebab is dry. Skip this one!

The Mango Lassi is perfect to wash down all the Indian/Pakistani food. It’s sweet, tangy, and refreshing!

Pak Putra Restaurant still makes great chicken tandoori and naan. And it’s still my favorite restaurant in Malacca. I highly recommend it to you!

P.S. Yes, Malacca redeemed itself. We came at a time when it’s not too hot, and walking around is enjoyable. Stay tuned for more Malacca articles!
