When I first visited Malacca back in 2018, it was on a weekday. So that means that I missed one of Malacca’s popular tourist attractions—the Jonker Street Night Market.

The Jonker Street Night Market is a weekend night market located along Jalan Hang Jebat, a.k.a. Jonker Street (also called Jonker Walk). In the daytime, you can stroll along the street, which is lined up with boutiques and cafe. But at night, it becomes a bustling night market that’s full of energy.

The market is only open from Friday to Sunday, from 6PM to 11PM.

Here’s are some of things you can see and eat at the night market:

Dried Flowers for Tea

We stumbled upon a stall that sells colorful dried flowers for tea.

Aside from its vibrant colors, these dried flowers have different health benefits.

Durian Ice Cream

If you’re a lover of the King of Fruits like me, the this durian ice cream is for you! It’s refreshing in the Malacca heat!

Fish Balls

When in Malaysia or Singapore, you simply can’t miss out on bouncy fish balls. If you’re a Filipino, these are nothing like our fish balls that’s actually flat. LOL.

These are perfect with the sweet chili sauce that goes with it.

Kueh

Kueh (also spelled Kuih) is a collective term for bite-sized snacks and desserts. There is an abundance of kueh sellers in Malacca, and you can find one in Jonker Street Night Market.

Muah Chee

Muah Chee are glutinous rice balls covered with ground peanuts and sugar. It’s similar to Japanese mochi.

For someone who likes peanut products like me, this is a must-try!

Personalized Bag Charms/Trinkets

There are many stalls selling unique accessories, like this stall selling cute and personalized bag charms or trinkets.

Pisang Goreng (Fried Bananas)

This stall serves Chinese-style Pisang Goreng. It has a light, crispy batter and creamy banana center.

Street Performers

Of course, you will not run out of entertainment in Jonker Street Night Market. We watched a duo (I think it’s a father and his son) do percussions.

There are even uncles and aunties doing karaoke. LOL.

Jonker Street Night Market may be packed with tourists. But the food and the energy are some things you shouldn’t miss. I would go as far as suggesting that you visit Malacca on a weekend so you can visit the night market. Needless to say, I highly recommend it to you!
