This article is part of the Batam Food Trip series. Check out the installments in this series: A2 Food Court | Joyi Bakes (Korean-Inspired Cafe) | Kedai Kopi Harum Manis (Breakfast) | itsumō TART (Japanese-Inspired Cafe) | Love Seafood | RM Sederhana (Nasi Padang) | Sup Ikan 96 (Yam Fish Soup and Chinese Food) | Tearoom by aralee (Cafe) | Warung Guling Pak Made (Babi Guling or Balinese Roast Suckling Pig)
Compared to the cafes in the neighboring Singapore, the cafes in Batam (Indonesia) are more affordable. So before we returned to the Lion City, we seize the opportunity to visit as many cafes as we can. We visited Tearoom by aralee, our favorite cafe in the city (read my review here), and itsumō TART (review here), a Japanese-inspired cafe. Another is Joyi Bakes or Joyi Cafe.
Joyi Bakes Penuin
Joyi Bakes/Cafe is a Korean-inspired cafe, serving bingsu (Korean shaved ice dessert), cheesecakes, cheese tarts, and tiramisu. They have two branches in Batam: Joyi Bakes in Mitra 2 complex and Joyi Cafe in Penuin complex.
We went to the Penuin branch, which has 2 floors.
Inside Joyi Bakes Penuin
Like many Korean-inspired cafes, Joyi Cafe in Penuin complex has a photobooth.

But more than the photobooth, you should go there for the desserts:

As mentioned earlier, Joyi is known for its cheese tarts. Their Original Melted Cheese Tart is creamy and tart, with a crumbly crust. (I’ve tried a similar cheesecake in Queic by Olivia in Singapore. Hands down, it’s the best! Sorry, Joyi! Read my review here.)
Original Melted Cheese Tart (IDR55,000)
They also serve different kinds of tiramisu. Their Classic Tiramisu has a nice coffee flavor. Unfortunately, I find it too soggy.
Classic Tiramisu Takeaway (IDR55,000)
Of course, their desserts are best paired with drinks. We tried their Iced Americano and Tropical Joyito. They are refreshing!
Left to Right: Tropical Joyito (IDR30,000) and Iced Americano (IDR25,000)
If you’re into Korean-inspired cafes, then Joyi Bakes/Cafe should be on your “Batam Cafes to Visit” list. I recommend it to you!
