Perfect Loaf: A Bakery and Cafe in Angeles City (Pampanga) Serving Filipino Comfort Food (They Make the Best Sotanghon)
Angeles City is a foodie paradise. While new food concepts are popping up around the city, there are institutions that stand the test of time. One of them is nestled in the Nepo Complex—the legendary Perfect Loaf.
Founded in the 90s, Perfect Loaf is one of the beloved bakery-slash-cafes in Angeles City. It started out as a bakery and eventually became a “one stop shop”, integrating cooked food as well.
It’s also interesting to note that Perfect Loaf is one of the favorite spots of the amazing Angelean chef, Claude Tayag (check out my review of Bale Dutung here).
Perfect Loaf is most known for its Sotanghon. This dish is made of its namesake mung-bean vermicelli noodles, chicken, and tainga ng daga (black fungus/woodear mushrooms).
It has bouncy and silky noodles, and a nice chicken flavor. It’s so simple yet so tasty and comforting. Now, I understand why Perfect Loaf is famous for it. And I agree with Chef Sandy Daza that it’s best in the world!
We also tried some of the home-style dishes, such as the crunchy and meaty Lumpiang Shanghai (Filipino deep-fried meat rolls).
They also serve Pork Kare-Kare (peanut stew). It has a strong peanut flavor which isn’t sweet, and I like it (some recipes use peanut butter, which makes the dish sweet). The veggies add texture and the pork could be more tender.
Perfect Loaf’s Cheese Rolls are also a bestseller. It’s fluffy and has a stick of cheese inside. But it’s better to have this warmed.
Although not the best version of it, their Decadent Chocolate Cake is moist,
Perfect Loaf makes simple and comforting home-style food. And sometimes, that’s what we need in this complicated life. LOL. Anyway, I highly recommend Perfect Loaf to you!
