Balay Dako Breakfast Buffet: This Breakfast Buffet in Tagaytay City is The Best I’ve Had in the Philippines!

Literally “big house” in Negrense, Balay Dako is a restaurant that proudly serves Filipino food. It’s also a restaurant from the Antonio’s group so you’re assured that the food is top-notch! (By the way, you can check out my review of their 40 Days Dry Aged Charcoal Grilled Angus Rib Eye Steak here.)

Balay Dako

For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to try their Breakfast Buffet, which is only available on weekends and holidays. However, I have weekend work and I don’t like going to Tagaytay on a holiday because of the heavy traffic. Fortunately, I attended an event in Tagaytay that allowed me and my wife to drop by Balay Dako for breakfast.

Inside Balay Dako

Balay Dako’s Breakfast Buffet is available on weekends and holidays from 7AM-11AM. The damage is P1200 for adults, P900 for children below 4 feet, and none for toddlers. They don’t accept reservations so they encourage diners to queue early.

The Buffet Spread of Balay Dako

We queued for almost an hour because the staff skipped calling our names, unfortunately. So be vigilant when you visit.

We queued for almost an hour. Good thing we were seated comfortably.

But that blunder was easily compensated with good food!

Balak Dako’s breakfast buffet includes the famous Breakfast at Antonio’s Corned Beef, which is carved on the spot.

Corned Beef

It’s fatty, stringy, and served with horseradish sauce that is not too strong but enough to cut through the fattiness. With this alone, you can get your money’s worth!

The horseradish sauce brings the corned beef to another level!

A unique feature of Balay Dako is their Make Your Own Fried Rice and Stir-Fried Noodles stations. They have a ton of ingredients to choose from!

Make Your Own Stir-Fried Noodles Station

With the right mix of ingredients, you’ll have amazing fried rice and stir-fried noodles!

Our Customized Fried Rice!

They also serve Kansi, which is a Negrense sour soup with a bone-in beef shank. It’s flavorful and comforting, perfect with rice (but this is a buffet so stay away from it! LOL.).

Kansi

We love their Hot Chocolate, which is the best we’ve had in the country. Made with Filipino chocolate, it’s perfectly rich, bitter, and sweet!

And where will you find a buffet that serves unlimited Balut or fertilized duck egg. As a balut lover, this gets my approval!

Other dishes we tried are:

  • Adobo/Adobo Flakes: Standard

  • Beef Tapa (marinated beef): Tender and fatty, but on the sweet side which I’m not a fan of

My Filipino Plate with Adobo, Beef Tapa, Corned Beef, Garlic Rice, Ginisang Gulay, Longganisa, and Salted Fish

  • Cassava Cake: Has shreds of coconut

  • Coffee: Has strong barako flavor

  • Ginisang Gulay (sautéed vegetables): Has crisp veggies

  • Kutsinta (steamed rice cake with lye water): Soft yet a bit firm; nice with yema (a Filipino sweet custard)

My Kakanin (Filipino Rice Cake) Plate with Cassava Cake, Kutsinta, Maja Blanca, and Palitaw

  • Longganisa (Filipino sausage): Fatty and sweet

  • Maja Blanca (coconut milk pudding with corn kernels and toasted coconut): Creamy

  • Omelette: Fluffy

Omelette

  • Palitaw (sweet and flat rice cake): Soft

  • Taho (silken tofu with tapioca pearls): Not my type because it strongly tastes like tofu when it shouldn’t be

Taho

Balay Dako’s breakfast buffet has a wide variety of good food. It’s worth your money, and is the best breakfast buffet we’ve had so far. I highly recommend it to you!
