Lezzat Martabak: This Stall in Salcedo Community Market Specializes in Martabak Manis, An Indonesian Snack That’s Probably One of the Most “Sinful” Desserts in the World

Literally “sweet martabak”, Martabak Manis is an Indonesian sweet pancake that’s a popular street snack. It’s a thick pancake cooked in a lot of butter, folded in half, and stuffed with various ingredients in between, most commonly cheese, chocolate, and even Nutella. No wonder it’s considered one most “sinful” desserts in the world!

I’m still waiting for my first trip to Indonesia. For the meantime, I will have to settle with the ones at home. Good thing that there’s Lezzat Martabak!

Lezzat Martabak at Salcedo Community Market

Lezzat Martabak is a stall in Salcedo Community Market, which is a Saturday market in Salcedo Village (Makati City). They specialize in Martabak (loosely translated as “stuffed pancake”), both sweet and savory.

The Menu of Lezzat Martabak

My wife and I had a chat with the owner’s mother, who is very friendly. She told us that her son (the owner) trained how to make martabak in Indonesia and even imported cookingware from the country. We can say that the martabaks they make are near authentic.

We tried a couple of their sweet martabaks. First is a mix of chocolate and cheese, which is common in Indonesia. The pancake is thick, dense, and chewy, with a crisp exterior. It’s also buttery.

It has a nice taste, with the chocolate being rich and the cheese adding some sharpness.

Yum!

Another is the Red Velvet flavor, another common flavor in Indonesia. It’s really like a red velvet cake in martabak form.

We also tried their savory martabak and got the Basic (eggs and onions) with added mushrooms. It’s crisp and chewy, with a tasty filling.

I don’t know what the martabak in Indonesia tastes like. Nevertheless, Lezzat Martabak makes, for me, good martabak manis. I say it’s good because we enjoyed it and that’s what matters. So I highly recommend Lezzat Martabak to you.
