Baker on East: This Cafe in Salcedo Village (Makati City) is Serving The Best Doughnuts I’ve Ever Had in the Philippines!
I love doughnuts! I’ve tried so many doughnut shops, from chains to independent ones, and I will try more in search of the best doughnuts. But for now, I think Baker on East is my favorite!
Baker on East
Baker on East (BoE) is a cafe tucked in one of the streets of Salcedo Village (Makati City). Its founder, Chino Cruz, an editor-turned-baker, didn’t originally plan to sell doughnuts. It was only because of his brother Gio, the BoE co-founder and a doughnut lover, that doughnuts were added to the menu.

The Menu
BoE’s doughnuts are available from Wednesday through Sunday, and are sold out by afternoon. Its flavors are unique (when I went there, they have Guava Cheesecake and Seoul Milo Dinosaur), and changes from time to time (I’m not sure if it’s weekly).
Look at those doughnuts!
So why do I like their doughnuts? Let me put it this way: It’s like the classic bakery doughnuts that are fried and covered in white sugar (which I love!), but elevated with creative fillings. It’s light, pillowy, and delicious!
I love their Guava Cheesecake, which is creamy and tart, and the Taiwan Tart, which has a nice pineapple taste.

Aside from doughnuts, they also bake pastries. I tried their Bangkok Babe Blondie, which is like butterscotch bar overload; PB Crunch, which is like peanut butter-flavored rice crispies topped with chocolate; and Garam Masala, which is a shortbread cookie that’s buttery and spiced with South Asian flavors . I love them all!

BoE also serves coffee. I tried their Jungle Flower, which is their specialty coffee with a hint Southeast Asian flavors. Not really sure what the ingredients are, but I like it!

Baker on East makes good coffee and pastries. But more importantly, they make the best doughnuts (for me) and the most creative fillings. I highly recommend Baker on East to you.
P.S. I’m not sure why the name Baker on East. I read somewhere that it’s because the owner lives near East Avenue, but I’m not so sure about it.
