Dong Won Garden (Bel-Air, Makati City): Now My Favorite Korean Barbecue Spot Because of Its Unlimited Premium Meats

I love Korean barbecue. Having watched food vlogs that feature KBBQ with premium meats, I’ve been looking for such here in the Metro. Luckily, I saw a video by Eatsplorations showing a Korean restaurant that offered unlimited premium meats. And guess what? It’s just a five-minute walk from my place!

That Korean spot is Dong Won Garden, which is a restaurant and mini-mart in one.

I always pass by this restaurant on my way home. But it didn’t catch my interest because, honestly, I find it shady. It has no windows or, more accurately, has covered windows, which made me suspicious. But thanks to Eatsplorations, I learned that it’s decent inside.

Inside Dong Won Garden

As I’ve mentioned, Dong Won Garden is also a mini-mart. Here, you can buy meats, vegetables, condiments, and equipment for your do-it-yourself KBBQ at home.

Do you see the “gold” there? LOL.

For your DIY KBBQ needs

Let’s talk about the food. Of course, no Korean barbecue would be complete without banchan (side dishes). I love their anchovies, mushrooms, and the duck meat covered with egg.

The only letdown of all side dishes is the Kimchi (of all items!). It’s more sour than spicy. It also the same with the Kimchi-jigae (Kimchi Stew).

A staple in Korean barbecue are the greens. They’re fresh and crisp.

One of my favorite items in any KBBQ spot is Steamed Egg. Like other Korean barbecue spots, Dong Won’s is creamy and fluffy.

What I like about Dong Won is that you can order items that are not usually offered in unli KBBQ, such as Galbichim (braised beef short rib), which I love because of its ultra-tender beef and slight sweetness (although it’s oily and I want it to be sweeter), and Fried Dumplings, which is crisp yet nicely chewy at the same time.

Unlike other Korean barbecue spots, you can order unlimited Kimchi Fried Rice here. One cup should be enough, I believe. Else, you’ll get full too fast. You’ve been warned, my friend!

Let’s now turn to the two premium meats that I love. First is the Galbisal (marinated beef prime ribs). It is beefy and tender, and it feels like I’m eating steak (just watch the cooking time). Just season it or dip it in salt to give it more flavor.

Yum!

The second is the LA Galbi (Korean-style beef rib), which is tender and slightly sweet due to a Korean marinade.

I think if you keep on ordering these two meats, you’ll get your money’s worth quickly. But if you get the shrimp, which has a decent size, you’ll even experience a faster return on investment! LOL.

The price of Dong Won’s eat-all-you-can Korean barbecue used to be ₱599 only. But now it’s ₱799. Even with the price increase, I think it’s still worth it. The premium meats and the shrimp alone can easily make up for the damage. Let’s not forget the not-so-usual unli dishes like the Galbichim as well.

The unli Korean barbecue at Dong Won Garden is the best I’ve ever had yet, and it’s now my favorite KBBQ spot. I highly recommend this place to you!
