As the world’s oldest Chinatown, Manila Chinatown is home to historic establishments. One such spot is Toho Antigua Panciteria, which is the oldest restaurant in the Philippines, founded in 1888 (read my review here).

But in the midst of these institutions, new food concepts, including cafes, have been popping up in Manila Chinatown. One recent addition is Beanstro Coffee.

Beanstro Coffee

Beanstro Coffee started out as a home-based business during the COVID-19 pandemic. It became a pop-up tent before it transformed into a coffee truck stationed in Yuchengco Street. Being a coffee truck allowed them to be mobile, promoting the founders’ advocacy for community development.

Then finally in October 19, 2024, it transferred to Tytana Building for its first brick-and-mortar cafe.

I like its bright orange facade and interior. At a time where cafes tend to be more minimalistic, this is a refreshing change.

Beanstro makes classic and premium craft drinks. Their Vietnamese Coffee is strong and sweet, instantly transporting me to the streets of Vietnam.

I look forward to visiting Beanstro again so I can try more of their drinks, including their Beanondo Cacao and Mandarin Coffee (I love orange juice with coffee!).

It’s uncommon to find a cafe that specializes in Mango Sticky Rice. Unexpectedly, they make a good version of the Thai dessert. The mangoes are sweet, the sticky rice soft and perfectly cooked, and the coconut cream creamy and sweet.

They also have a Cacao Sticky Rice, which is mango sticky rice but with chocolate sauce instead. This makes sense because some regions in the Philippines serve suman (stick rice cake) with mangoes and chocolate.

Their Tiramisu is sweet and creamy. Unfortunately, it’s lacking in coffee flavor. I still like the one of Apologue Coffee & Pastry, another cafe in Manila Chinatown (read my review here).

And riding the Dubai Chocolate hype, Beanstro also has Dubai Chewy Cookie. It has chewy mochi and crunchy filling.

Beanstro Coffee makes good coffee and desserts. This is the perfect stop so you can pause and breathe from your Manila Chinatown food crawl and/or beat the Binondo heat. I highly recommend it to you!
