717 Deli: This Deli in Greenhills (San Juan City) Serves Exceptional Sandwiches and Fish and Chips

It’s rare to find a shop that serves delicious sandwiches here in Metro Manila and even in the entire Philippines. Thankfully, 717 Deli opened in Greenhills, San Juan City.

717 Deli

717 Deli is the brainchild of Lance Ngo, who used to sell cochinillo and roast beef online. But because orders for these dishes are only at its peak during the ber months, she and his business partner, Malou Yambao, pivoted and experimented, resulting to the deli’s first product—the Roast Beef Sandwich

Soon, they opened 717 Deli’s first branch in Fox Square Building.

We first visited 717 Deli in 2024 and were generally impressed by its offerings. However, I wasn’t able to write a review for it due to lack of time. We visited a second time recently and ordered other items, and were pleased again. So I’m making sure that I really write a review of 717 Deli’s food.

Here’s what we’ve tried so far:

717 Cheeseburger

Unlike the popular smashed burgers, the 717 Cheeseburger uses thick patty, which is beefy and ultra juicy (that's the advantage of thick patties over smashed ones). Then it's topped with melted cheese and a tangy “special” sauce.

My only wish is for it is to have more elements, like crispy bacon or fresh veggies, for additional textures. But even though it’s minimalist, it’s still an awesome burger and one of the best I’ve ever had!

Halibut Fish and Chips

It’s rare to find a spot here in the Philippines that serve halibut in its fish and chips and even an authentic fish and chips for that matter. So we’re not going to miss trying this even though it’s on the pricier side.

The fish itself is flaky, covered in a crispy and airy beer batter. It’s a tad oily for us, but I guess that’s a mark of an authentic fish and chips.

Mortadella Supreme

For me, this is the sandwich that 717 Deli crafted to perfection. It has salty mortadella, creamy burrata, crisp arugula, and juicy tomatoes, all sandwiched in a soft and chewy focaccia bread. It’s a world of flavor and textures, and every bite screams Italian!

And I will say this boldly: Go to 717 Deli for the Roast Beef Sandwich, but stay for the Mortadella Sandwich! It’s really that good!

Patty Melt

So far, this is the only letdown in 717 Deli. We find the bread overly soft. In fact, we couldn’t even remember how the patty tasted because we were so distracted with the bread.

Roast Beef Sandwich

This is the sandwich that started it all! It has slices of melt-in-the-mouth beef, smothered with a mildly sharp horseradish mayonnaise, and sandwiched between buttery and fluffy brioche buns.

I only wish that the bread has some crisp and structure. But overall, this is a great sandwich!

While there are minor points of improvement in their sandwiches, 717 Deli makes amazing sandwiches overall. In fact, it’s way better than most sandwiches you’ll have here in the Philippines. I highly recommend it to you!

P.S. I’ll definitely visit 717 Deli again. So when I try more items, I’ll update this article.
