We had a lengthy travel day going to Phuket. To get there, we rode three planes and did two layovers in Singapore and Bangkok. When we arrived in the party island of Thailand, we were exhausted and hungry late at night. So we didn’t waste time and went to our first Thai food spot of the trip, which is open until midnight—Go Benz.

Go Benz

Awarded with a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, Go Benz is a hole-in-the-wall famous for its dry porridge or boiled rice (yes, there is such a thing) and other pork dishes. It’s popular among locals and tourists that it’s still packed with diners late at night.

It’s amusing to watch the ladies prepare the customer’s order:

TheY’ve developed an incredible system of preparing food that it’s fun to watch!

Here’s their menu:

Go Benz’ Men

We ordered their Dry Boiled Rice (With Soup), which is their bestseller. It has tasty rice, a piece of crispy and tasty pork belly, and different pig organs, such as liver and stomach, which give various flavors and textures. The garlic and lard adds another layer of flavor.

We also tried the Boiled Pork Rib, which is nicely peppery and has tender meat. There are peppery meatballs as well. This dish reminds me of the Singaporean Teochew-style Bak Kut Teh, which is one of my favorite Singaporean dishes of all time.

We washed down our porky midnight meal with Cold Crysanthemum Tea and Roselle Juice. We like the latter better!

We’re supposed to order their Moo Krob (crispy pork belly) but it wasn’t available ala carte during our visit. So we requested if they could just put an additional piece on our Dry Boiled Rice. We’re happy that they accommodated us.

Go Benz serves delicious food. As our first stop in our entire Thailand eat-inerary, it made us excited for the all the food we’re going to eat. I highly recommend it to you, especially if you’re looking for a late night snack!
