Ming Garden Delicacies: A Hawker Stall in Dunman Food Centre (Singapore) Serves Affordable Zi Char Meals (It’s My Favorite Stall in the Hawker Center!)
First things first: What is Zi Char? Literally “cook fry” and sometimes spelled as “Cze/Tze Char”, this refers to Chinese home-style dishes or meals that are cooked upon order.
It’s one of the Singaporean food experiences that every foodie should try. You can try it at Kek Eng Kee Seafood (check my review here).
The price range falls in between the prices of hawkers and of higher-end Chinese restaurants. But even the zi char food from hawker stalls are on the higher-priced side and couldn’t be considered a budget meal.
This isn’t the case for Ming Garden Delicacies at Dunman Food Centre (read my food guide here). At this stall, you can have a zi char rice meal for only SGD6.50. It’s hard to beat that!

We got to spoke to the uncle who owns the stall. He came from another industry before moving into the hawker game. That’s what I call passion and you will see it when he cooks.

The big question is: Ming Garden Delicacies may be affordable. But is it good?
The Menu
The Ginger and Scallion Chicken has huge chunks of tender chicken (thigh, I believe), covered in a thick oyster sauce-based gravy. The ginger, scallion, and onions add texture and flavor.

The Salted Egg Pork is tender, covered in a salted egg sauce that’s creamy, tasty, and spicy.

Of course, you can’t miss out on fried rice when eating in a zi char spot. Their bestselling Beef Fried Rice has tender beef and strong wok hei (smokiness).

The Hong Kong Kai Lan (Chinese broccoli) is crisp and garlicky because of the slivers of toasted garlic. You can’t go wrong with the veggies in Singapore.

So is the food good? It’s not just good but great! And it’s so delicious that we brought some of the dishes back home to the Philippines. You can feel the passion of the chef in every dish.
Ming Garden Delicacies makes amazing zi char food at affordable prices. It’s my favorite stall in Dunman Food Centre. Needles to say, I highly recommend it to you!
