LBS Bakeshop: This Bakery in San Fernando City (Pampanga) Serves Better Cheese Bread!
Whenever we’re in Pampanga, we always try to drop by L.A. Bakeshop for its addicting Cheese Bread. But thanks to Featr, I learned that there is another bakery that sells cheese bread, which I heard is even better than L.A.’s. That bakery is LBS Bakeshop.
Actually, LBS is an offshoot of L.A. Bakeshop. It’s named after its owner—Leonila B. Santiago—who was the first half of the “L.A.” (Angeline Lim is the second half). After twenty years of partnership, the two owners parted ways. Interestingly, LBS opened its first store a few steps away from L.A. Bakeshop’s main branch.
So is LBS’ cheese bread really better than L.A.’s? We went to San Fernando City, the origin of LBS, to find out!
Their version is made of soft bread with a sweet, cheese crust. What distinguishes it from L.A. Bakeshop, I think, is that the cheese crust is creamier. It feels like I’m eating a salted egg bread or something.
We also tried their other bestseller—Spanish Bread. It’s a small bread (compared to the ones in Manila) that can be eaten in two bites. It’s also soft, and it’s not overwhelmingly sweet and margarine-y.
They also sell Pan de Coco (coconut bun), which has generous sweet and creamy coconut filling, and Yema Hopia (a mooncake-like pastry with yema or sweet custard), which has a milky taste (because the yema is made from condensed milk) and not too sweet.
They also have Empanada, which is crumbly, on the savory side, and has potato chunks.
