Los Indios Bravos: A Boracay Gastropub with Local Craft Beers on Tap

I’m doing a Boracay Food Trip 2023 series this month. Check out the installments so far: Cha Cha’s Beach Cafe (Breakfast Buffet) | Cyma Greek Taverna | Los Indios Bravos | Percy Seafood | Sapphire at Henann Crystal Sands Resort (Seafood Buffet) | The Sunny Side Cafe

I like craft beers. Lucky for me, there’s a gastropub that offers local craft beers on tap. It’s one of the popular food spots in Boracay—Los Indios Bravos.

Los Indios Bravos

Translated as “the brave natives/Filipinos”, Los Indios Bravos refers to a group of Filipino writers and poets (including the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal) in Europe who wrote to show the condition of the Philippines under the Spaniards, and to fight for reforms. The namesake Boracay gastropub pays homage to the group.

Aside from craft beers, Los Indios Bravos offers pub food. It used to be in another location under a different ownership. It’s now located at the White House Beach Resort and now owned by Chef Martin Jickain and his wife Maggie Tirol.

Like I mentioned, Los Indios Bravos offers Filipino craft beers on tap, which you can order by the glass. But if you want to try more flavors without getting drunk, try the Beer Flight.

Let’s now talk about the food, starting with the salad. We tried their Tuna Nicoise. Its greens are crisp, the orange are refreshing, and the pan-seared tuna is okay. But the lemon vinaigrette is so sour. You can skip this one.

We also got the Indios Platter so we can try more of Los Indios Bravos’ appetizers. It has baked oysters, Beer Battered Chicken Goujons (or fingers), Croquettes, Ultra Crispy Chicken Wings, Nachos, and Bitterballen (Dutch croquettes made of beef hash. My favorites in the platter are the Bitterballen and the Chicken Goujons (because it’s batter is light, crisp, and airy, just like fish and chips).

You can always order a plate of Chicken Goujons:

We grab every chance we can eat oysters. So we ordered the Oyster Rockefeller, which is cheesy and has a nice bacon flavor. My only concern, though minor, is that the salt from its plating got into some of oysters. So it’s super salty!

For mains, we got “The Indios Bravos” Pork Schnitzel, which is a massive piece of breaded pork. If you’re hungry or you want something to share as a group, then order this!

We also had the Mac and Cheese, which is like a glorified boxed mac and cheese. LOL. But seriously, it’s cheesy and good. I like it, as it brings me back to my childhood.

We also ordered other items but I forgot to take note of it. LOL. And before I forget, don’t order the Shepherd’s Pie. We think it’s not authentic and tastes like chili con carne.

We always end our Los Indios Bravos feast with Deep Fried Mars Bar. The batter used is the same with one used for the chicken goujons and, I believe, the fish and chips (I say “believe” because in both of our visits, the fish and chips are out of stock!). So imagine a warm, melty Mars bar covered with crisp batter, then topped with cold ice cream. It’s decadent!

Honestly, there’s nothing spectacular with the food at Los Indios Bravos. It’s also pricey, even with Boracay standards. But it’s comforting and perfect to be shared with family and friends (and in that way, keep the expenses more manageable). Let’s not forget to pair their food with good, local craft beer. I recommend Los Indios Bravos to you.

PS I need to return for that elusive fish and chips!
